The Dallas Cowboys had an 80% chance of beating Tampa Bay on Thursday night.
Nobody told Bucky Irving.
The Buccaneers entered Dallas winless, missing their starting quarterback and carrying just a 20% probability of victory on Kalshi.
Then Irving rushed for a career-high 165 yards, scored twice and helped Tampa Bay beat Dallas 24-16.
The Cowboys managed just 50 rushing yards as a team. Irving had a 72-yard run by himself.
Rookie quarterback Jalon Daniels played mistake-free football, while Dak Prescott threw two interceptions. Dallas committed three turnovers. Tampa Bay committed none.
It was the kind of game that makes prediction markets interesting.
The numbers tell us what the crowd expects. The games remind us why they actually have to be played.
And with the MLB postseason narrowing and a massive college football weekend ahead, there’s plenty left to price.
THE CROWD WAS RIGHT
OCTOBER BASEBALL IS REWARDING THE CONTENDERS
The Dodgers, Brewers and Rays are all moving on.
Los Angeles eliminated Atlanta in four games. Milwaukee did the same to San Diego. Tampa Bay made even quicker work of the Yankees, sweeping New York in three.
The market has responded by concentrating championship probability among the survivors.
The Dodgers now command 43% of the World Series market. Milwaukee sits at 25%, while Tampa Bay has climbed to 22%.
The interesting part isn’t that good teams are winning.
It’s how quickly the market is narrowing its view of who can win the whole thing.
THE VERDICT: YES.
THE CROWD BLEW IT
BUCKY IRVING AND THE 20% BUCCANEERS
Dallas was supposed to win Thursday.
Kalshi traders gave the Cowboys an 80% probability before kickoff. The Buccaneers were 0-4, Baker Mayfield was injured, and undrafted rookie Jalon Daniels was making just his second NFL start.
Then Bucky Irving took over.
He carried the ball 21 times for 165 yards, scored a rushing touchdown and caught another.
The Buccaneers won 24-16.
A 20% outcome is supposed to happen occasionally. The upset doesn’t prove the market was irrational.
But it does demonstrate how much uncertainty can be hiding inside a price that looks decisive.
THE VERDICT: NO.
OUR RECEIPTS
Monday’s Opening Bell featured four calls.
JEREMIAH SMITH
Trade Jeremiah Smith to win the Heisman
Smith has cooled slightly from Monday’s 48% high.
That doesn’t make the call wrong. It simply means the market is reassessing how much confidence to place in a wide receiver this early in the season.
OHIO STATE
Trade Ohio State to win the Big Ten
Ohio State’s conference-title price has edged higher.
MILWAUKEE
Trade Milwaukee to win the World Series
The Brewers advanced without much movement in the outright market.
KANSAS CITY
Trade Kansas City to win the Super Bowl
The Chiefs remain at 9%.
OUR RECORD: All three YES calls remain open. No outcomes have settled.
THE MOVE OF THE WEEK
THE DODGERS ARE TAKING OVER THE WORLD SERIES MARKET
29% → 43%
Trade the Dodgers to win the World Series
The Dodgers have added 14 percentage points to their World Series probability over the past seven days.
Los Angeles is back in the position it usually occupies.
The favorite.
But 43% is a substantial price for a team that still needs to win two postseason series.
THE TRADE: WATCH
THE WEEKEND BOARD
1. GEORGIA AT ALABAMA
Alabama: 53% | Georgia: 47%
The biggest college football game of the weekend is essentially a coin flip.
This is exactly the kind of game that can reshape the national-title market in a single evening.
OUR CALL: WATCH
2. JEREMIAH SMITH’S NEXT HEISMAN AUDITION
Ohio State: 99% | Smith Heisman: 44%
Ohio State is an overwhelming favorite against Maryland.
The more interesting market is Smith.
Another huge performance could reverse this week’s decline in his Heisman probability.
OUR CALL: YES
3. SAN FRANCISCO AT SEATTLE
Seattle: 62% | San Francisco: 38%
Seattle is trading as the favorite in one of Sunday’s more compelling divisional matchups.
OUR CALL: YES on Seattle
4. DODGERS VS. BREWERS
Los Angeles: 59% | Milwaukee: 41%
The Dodgers have the market’s confidence.
Milwaukee has the better regular-season record and a meaningful underdog price.
OUR CALL: WATCH Milwaukee at 41%
